TARRC monitor rubber fume and process dust levels in-house

TARRC's Daryl Taylor using the Sensidyne GilAir 3 Air Sampling Pump TARRC monitor rubber fume and process dust levels in-house

In June 2011 four members of TARRC staff from the Industrial Support Unit and the Advanced Materials and Product Development Unit were trained to undertake rubber fume and process dust measurements using a recently purchased Sensidyne GilAir 3 Air Sampling Pump.

This equipment will allow TARRC to monitor their technicians exposure levels in the Mill Room, Black Mix Area, Tyre Retread Development Area and any other area where rubber fume and process dust is generated. These samples can then be analysed by TARRC's Materials Characterisation Unit.

Monitoring of rubber fume and process dust levels enables TARRC to confirm that staff are not exposed to concentrations that exceed the legal limit, i.e. the Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL).

It is anticipated that these checks will be carried out on a regular routine basis or when a procedural or equipment change has occured.
