TARRC's Dr Andy Chapman gives presentation at Sustainability of Elastomers Seminar |
|
TARRC's Head of the Advanced Materials and Product Development Unit, Dr. Andy Chapman gave the presentation entitled “The sustainability of Natural Rubber and its derivatives”. The presentation gave an overview of the green credentials of NR and NR-based polymers, their properties and applications, and focused on recent work at TARRC on application of silica-filled ENR in passenger tyre treads. TARRC’s work is demonstrating that, as well being based on sustainable resources, ENR-silica tyre treads can also provide lower rolling resistance and better wet grip, when compared with state-of-the-art passenger tyre treads. Lower rolling resistance leads to significant fuel savings and hence reduced CO2 emissions. For more information do not hesitate to contact Dr Andy Chapman. TARRC Scientists will also be giving papers related to this subject in 2009 and are listed below: 19th March 2009 4th - 7th May 2009 18th - 20th June 2009 Fall ACS - 'Rubber Expo and 176th Technical Meeting & 100th Anniversary Celebration in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania' Dr Andy Chapman is co-chairing a session on NR and is looking to present a paper which will most probably be on ENR. These papers and conferences will be highlighted in more detail throughout the year. |
